After leaving Lincoln Center after a full day of shooting runway shows at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week, I bumped into this group of kids & asked them why they were out so late.
They told me that they had a 10 o’clock curfew at the School of American Ballet where they attended.
I was really intrigued to learn of a ballet boarding school & even more fascinated that at least 2 Black boys attended the school. It was a lesson in diversity for me.
So, after learning that they attended a ballet school, I asked them if they would do a dance for me. Only the young tall girl indulged me.
I was impressed & they made my night.

Hey! I don’t know a lot about fashion but…when I was a teenager, I was a banquet waitress at then (The Westin) in Detroit.
I saw my very first REAL Fashion Show! It was a funraiser and I served dinner to some of the finest people.
The music and the ladies with the bright makeup, walking the runway intriqued me the most. But the lights, the stage, the clothing was AWESOME too!
Dione Warwick was the entertainer of the evening. I even got a goodie bag full of samples of the lastest designer perfumes at that time.
I will never forget that experience.
