Milk Studios: Libertine

After my first Fashion Week experience a few years ago, I had a desire to attend/photograph shows & presentations that were not at Lincoln Center. Although I wanted to, logistically, it was difficult for me to make that happen with how my schedule was set.

This past season, I made it my business to attend some off site shows.

The first off site show I photographed was Libertine at Milk Studios, which I was very excited about. I had heard that Milk Studios was the place to be because many up & coming as well as established designers show there. And honestly, I have to say that I had a better experience at Milk Studios than all of Lincoln Center in terms of the media riser.

So I arrive at Milk Studios for backstage coverage only to find that my access was not in place. I felt shot down like a mofo. Minutes later the contact told me there was a mix up then she invited me backstage & the party was on from there. I mixed & mingled a bit. Met models from as far a Australia to Central Africa.

After I was done with backstage coverage, I made my way to the media riser, which was already packed but I managed to weasel my way into a great position. As I was setting up my equipment, I accidentally dropped my monopod mount & it flew into the back of a woman’s head. And it flew hard. I actually heard it smack her. Then it hit the ground with a loud thud.

Many of the photographers in the media riser were like DAYYYYUUUUUMMMM. It was really that bad. I rushed down to apologize and she said no problem but she moaned and moaned. I felt so bad. Really bad!

If you were following me on on Facebook & Twitter, you know that it was a hot mess. Then I had to cuss her out but that’s another story…..

The show eventually started. I photographed it. It was all that I had hoped. So happy that I made this work!
