Good Shooting!
In the last year the Getty Flickr collection has encountered some major growth in terms of number of contributors & image content.
I see this growth as a good & bad situation. It’s good when my monthly royalty checks are deposited & bad when I have to wait for months to have newly submitted images to be submitted, approved, & keyworded for successful sales.
Even considering the serious lag in adding new content to the Flickr collection, I am secure in knowing that Getty is promoting the creative images submitted by talented Flickr contributors.
Now that I have a round of 15 new images to submit, I know what I’ll be busy doing Saturday night while enjoying a glass of my favorite Sauvigon Blanc.
If you’re on Flickr & interested being a contributor to the Getty collection, here is a link to helpful information.
Well, if it’s any consolation, I read on their Flickr group page that they’re completely shutting down until mid-late April so they can finish up with all the current selections, and revamp the process. So maybe after they reopen (I think it said April 20th), they won’t take so long to sort through your stuff.
Now all I need to do is figure out how to get in there. I looked at the stuff I submitted, and it’s not so great. But they’re shut down for so long, so I can’t submit any of my more recent stuff either. I have to just sit here and wait to get rejected. lol I need to find out what type of images they’re looking for. lol
Yes, luckily the pool is not accepting any submissions until April 20th.
As an example, I submitted like 10 images in Jan 2010 & they are just now responding to me.
Im one of the fortunate contributors that has a nice size collection of images available now but others are not in that boat which I understand can be frustrating.
I think when they increased the monthly amount of what ppl could submit, everything went to hell. And unfortunately, when you look through the pool, there are a lot of duplicative images that are not all that creative. I know that creativity is subjective but you can only submit so many images of a single object or person. Im just saying.
Like I said before, keep trying!!!!
Tafari,
I am a textile artist, who creates most of my designs on paper using ink or gouache prior to screen printing, hand painting or dyeing my designs onto fabric.
Do you know if Flickr accepts those types of photos?
Thanks for any information you can provide Tafari.
congratulations T – well deserved. your images are impactful and inspiring! peace and creativity to you.
Brenda -You can upload any type of photo to Flickr. Not many if any restrictions. You may be even able to scan your work, if its that small….
I would encourage you to set up an account & give it a try.
APJ – Thx so much man. Im humbled!!!
