Being Cool
Last weekend, I went down south to visit my momma and relax.
During the trip, we did some thrift shopping which is when I copped this red linen blazer for $3.99 (I decided to wear it out…). After thrifting, we decided to see the movie, “Divergent” (HORRIBLE, BORING, WASTER OF MONEY).
After we got our tickets, I jumped in the concessions line to get my momma some popcorn (with extra butter). While I was in line, I noticed a little boy who looked Ethiopian staring up at me. He was maybe 6 or 7 years old.
He pulled on his dad’s shirt and said “I’ve never seen anybody like that. His hair is so cool.” His father (non-Negro) apologized. I laughed and introduced myself to the boy named Marahek & shook his hand. He had good firm handshake for a kid.
I told my momma about it and she said that you don’t see too many people with locked hair where she lives. Maybe so. Maybe not…
My thought was maybe he possibly was not exposed to many people who look like he did, brown with nappy hair in various shapes and forms.
Whatever the case, it was an interesting exchange that made my day & I hope that Marahek knows that he is a cool brown boy too.
